About Me

Hello and welcome to my site.  My name is Lelia. I am a Certified Birth & Postpartum Doula/Lactation consultant (International Doula Institute). I currently subcontract for the Community Health Center of Richmond through the New York City - Citywide Doula Initiative. I am a traditionally & clinically trained herbalist and have also received my Masters in Herbal Studies from the (American College of Healthcare Sciences). My other certifications include Trauma Informed Aromatherapy and Usui Reiki, Master level.

I currently serve as Secretary on the Board of Directors for the newly formed Drusilla Poole Center for African American History and Culture.  This organization is an outgrowth to the Sandy Ground Cultural Center, located in Staten Island, New York, which I am a direct descendant of this community. As the oldest African American community in the country, Sandy Ground is a source of immense pride and is rich with history and culture. Through the Drusilla Poole Center, we will continue to preserve and honor the Sandy Ground legacy while bringing the unique history of African Americans to light  I am excited to be part of this organization and contribute to its mission of promoting African American culture and its heritage. 

Despite my many hats, I am dedicated and passionate about the work I do.  As stated on my landing page, my primary mission is to help women (and men) who are/have gone through traumatic experiences, illness, low self-esteem, etc. and help to release, heal and empower. I have also made a commitment to devote my skills, time and effort to the most underserved and often overlooked community - the postpartum mother - to provide her with coping skills and emotional support during the most important transition in her life.

I am fully insured as a birth worker and can accept Medicaid and commercial insurance for your convenience.

My experience as a reiki master, practitioner, and crystal therapist allows me to introduce you all to my favorite high vibrational crystals and provide different relaxation techniques during the birth and the postpartum healing period.

  • Birth Doula

    A birth doula plays a crucial role in the birthing process by providing emotional and physical support to the mother and her partner. This includes helping the mother prepare for childbirth, assisting with pain management techniques, and advocating for the mother's birth preferences. The doula also serves as a source of information and guidance, helping the mother make informed decisions throughout her pregnancy and birth. It is our responsibility as doula's to ensure that the mother feels empowered and supported during this vulnerable and transformative experience. We do not provide medical care, but rather complement the care provided by doctors, nurses and midwives. The role of a birth doula is crucial in promoting a positive and empowering birth experience for the mother and her family.

  • Postpartum Doula

    Postpartum doulas play a vital role in supporting new parents during the delicate and challenging postpartum period. We provide physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother and her partner, helping them adjust to their new roles and responsibilities as parents. This may include assisting with breastfeeding, offering guidance on infant care, and helping with household tasks. Additionally, postpartum doulas offer emotional support, providing a listening ear and reassurance during this transitional time. We also offer valuable information and resources to help parents make informed decisions about their newborn's care. Ultimately, the role of a postpartum doula is to provide non-judgmental and compassionate care to new families as they navigate the postpartum period. Our responsibilities may vary depending on the needs of the family, but our goal is always to support and empower the mother as she transitions into this new chapter of her life.

    How much will services cost?

    Pricing varies. You have two options to choose from or you can choose a la cart services. Payment plans are available. You can also use FSA. All payments are due by 34 weeks. $500 down payment at signing of contract. 1/2 due 1st prenatal visit - 1/2 due 2nd prenatal visit.

    Do you accept insurance?

    Accepts Medicaid & Medicaid Managed Care Plans

    How do I obtain free birth & postpartum services?

    Through the Citywide Doula Initiative. I will be able to refer you and be your doula. When you contact me, please state your interest in this program.

    What proof of income is needed for free services?

    Last or most recent paystubs, unemployment letter, letter from shelter or housing authority, WIC letter, or letter from support person.
